Public Administration Specialization

The Public Administration track in the Organizational Management Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program is designed to train students for careers and job opportunities in government including the federal government and civil service, as well as state, county and municipal governments.

Examples of job opportunities in Public Administration include:
Administrative Services Managers in healthcare, finance, and insurance; Education Administrators; Economic Development Directors; Public Administration Consultants; Program Directors; Program Analysts; City/Town Managers; and careers related to Budgeting and Finance, Public Policy, and Urban Planning.

Students will learn a wide range of skills in areas that include:

• Public policy formation and implementation
• Public budgeting process
• Fiscal and monetary policy
• Urban and regional planning at the municipal, regional, state and national levels
• Political, economic, legal and social issues affecting comprehensive planning efforts
• Community development and land use
• Intergovernmental relations, ethics and accountability
• Personnel management and labor relations

The admissions process follows the general bachelor's degree enrollment steps with entry into the program available in the Fall, Spring and Summer terms. The degree's required Organizational Management common core courses can be taken online or on campus, while the five Public Administration Specialization courses are only offered online.

While the Public Administration specialization offers a 100% online option, bachelor program courses can fill quickly when registration begins. To finish a program that has a designated 100% online option by taking only online courses, students need to register in a timely manner to ensure they have a seat for the online course offerings of their choice. The same guidance applies to access for face-to-face courses on campus. Work with your advisor as needed when planning and be sure to check the important term dates and student email for current information about registration start dates.

This BAS program is designed for students who already hold an Associate in Science degree (A.S.), Associate in Arts degree (A.A.) or higher from a regionally accredited institution, including recent graduates and those with experience in the work force. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree does not meet the minimum eligibility requirement for entry into this program. AAS degree holders who intend to transfer into the BAS program should consult with an academic advisor to review coursework and determine the best transfer options.
