A career in sports management

Working in the exciting field of sports management starts with the right education. EFSC's Organizational Management BAS Degree Sports Management specialization, beginning in Spring Term 2017, is designed for students interested in a career in professional, collegiate and amateur sports administration, sports marketing and branding, major and minor league team leadership, recreational facility management, and the athletic goods and apparel industry. Sports Management professionals often work as team managers, athletic directors, sports agents and recruiters, and marketing and public relations professionals.

Students in the Sports Management track will complete core business coursework relating to current topics in strategic management, customer relations, economics, human resources, accounting, the legal aspects of business, and organizational behavior and communication — plus focus on athletics-intensive business courses including sports finance, management and marketing and sports facilities management. 

The admissions process for the Sports Management specialization follows the general bachelor's degree enrollment steps. Students are accepted into the program for the Spring, Summer and Fall terms which start in January, May and August each year. The required Organizational Management common core courses can be taken online or on campus, while the five Sports Management Specialization courses are only offered online.

The degree is intended to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce in a mid-level management position. Graduates will demonstrate mastery of leadership and management skills associated with successful organizational managers in public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

While the Sports Management specialization offers a 100% online option, bachelor program courses can fill quickly when registration begins. To finish a program with a designated 100% online option by taking only online courses, students need to register in a timely manner to ensure they have a seat for the online course offerings of their choice. The same guidance applies to access for face-to-face courses on campus. Work with your advisor as needed when planning and be sure to check the important term dates and student email for current information about registration start dates.

This BAS program is designed for students who already hold an Associate in Science degree (A.S.), Associate in Arts degree (A.A.) or higher from a regionally accredited institution, including recent graduates and those with experience in the work force. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree does not meet the minimum eligibility requirement for entry into this program. AAS degree holders who intend to transfer into the BAS program should consult with an academic advisor to review coursework and determine the best transfer options.
