Aviation Maintenance Technology

Let your career take off through aircraft maintenance training at Eastern Florida State College’s Aviation Center — one of the most affordable A & P school routes to obtaining FAA certification. Training at EFSC is as low as $15,000 compared to more than $40-$50,000 elsewhere!

EFSC is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS). We will train you to become an aviation maintenance technician and prepare you to take the FAA exams leading to certification as an Airframe and Powerplant Technician. America is facing a serious shortage of aircraft mechanics, with median pay above $58,000 according to government stats, making this a great time to start your aviation maintenance training in Florida at a community college setting that makes the program much more affordable than other options.

This is a limited access program and a special program application process is required.

The program consists of two certificates, starting with the Airframe Mechanics CTC:
  • Aviation Airframe Mechanics CTC [View curriculum]
Upcoming Start Dates & Application Deadlines:
    Fall 2023 (October start) - Deadline: Aug. 26, 2023
    Spring 2024 (January start):
    Deadline: Oct. 14, 2023

  • Aviation Powerplant Mechanics CTC [View curriculum]
If based on prior experience or FAA approval, you might qualify to take only the Powerplant courses, please contact the program advisor for personalized advising.

In this training program you will learn aircraft maintenance theory, diagnostic procedures and FAA approved methods for inspecting, servicing, and repairing aircraft and their systems. Students will be taught how to use aviation industry standard tooling and equipment to perform work on actual aircraft.

This full-time, clock-hour program is located at EFSC’s Aviation Center at Melbourne International Airport. It consists of approximately 50% classroom lectures with the other 50% spent in the aviation maintenance shop learning "hands-on" skills. Following the established course sequence, the program can be completed in under 21 months and classes are held in the daytime, Monday through Thursday from 8:15 AM to 4:35 PM. Classes are conducted in the fall, spring and summer terms.
