Chemical Technology A.S. Degree
This Associate in Science degree prepares students to work as a laboratory technician, or provides the foundation for further education in scientific or healthcare-related fields. Career opportunities are expanding, with graduates able to assist scientists and engineers by performing chemical and physical laboratory tests related to quality control monitoring, research and development, and manufacturing, plus maintain lab health and safety standards.
The degree also assists students interested in transitioning to the Medical Laboratory Technician A.S. degree and it's an affordable path to EFSC's limited-access Biomedical Sciences Track in the Applied Health Sciences Bachelor's of Applied Science program. Students who plan to pursue these or other Nursing or Health Sciences programs at Eastern Florida State College should refer to each program's web page in order
to identify prerequisite courses such as Biology, Microbiology or Anatomy & Physiology.
The Chemical Technology A.S. degree curriculum is designed to develop skills that are critical for success in any scientific or healthcare career: analytical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication of technical information. You can choose from three specialization tracks within the A.S. degree:
The Chemical Technology program also includes the Scientific Workplace Preparation CCC — a college credit certificate comprised of courses that meet many of the prerequisite requirements for EFSC's Nursing & Health Sciences programs. Students may determine that this CCC, an Associate in Arts degree, or enrolling as a non-degree seeking student best meets the goal of completing prerequisite courses for other programs or degrees.
