Cosmetology Point System
Applicants to the Cosmetology program are evaluated for admission based upon a point system.
Eastern Florida State College's Department of Cosmetology operates under the direction of, and in compliance with, the Department of Education and the Department of Business and Professional Regulations. This program prepares you to apply for a professional cosmetology license from the state of Florida.

TABE Testing
Students are required to take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) and achieve a qualifying scores, or qualify for an exemption, in order to graduate from the Cosmetology program. Learn more about the TABE on the Application Process page.
The following points are awarded if the exemption or qualifying test scores are achieved by the application deadline:
Passed the TABE = 25 points
TABE Exemption = 25 points
Letter of Recommendation
Students must submit AT LEAST ONE, but no more than three, letters of recommendation from a teacher, colleague or other professional stating why they feel you would be a good candidate for the Cosmetology program.
Required Letter = 5 points
Up to two, optional, additional letters = 5 points each
Letters must be submitted on company/school letterhead and can be emailed to program

Essay
Submit a typed, one-page essay answering the question "Why I've Chosen Cosmetology?"
This optional requirement is worth 30 points.
