Guardianship Related Courses

The two courses listed below are non-professional guardianship courses primarily intended for family related guardian situations. The courses do not lead to professional certification. These courses are held on Eastern Florida State College's Melbourne campus twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.

Florida Non-Professional Guardianship-Person & Property - Adults (LAEX 0225)

This course is required for each person appointed by the court to be a guardian. This is a court-approved, non-professional guardianship training course and meets statutory guardianship education requirements. Taught by attorneys, financial planners, healthcare professionals and professional care managers, it is co-sponsored by EFSC, the judges of the 18th Judicial Circuit, & the Brevard Guardianship Association.

The Curriculum covers: 
•    History of guardianship in Florida
•    Types of guardianship
•    Maintenance and termination of guardianship
•    Required forms
•    Legal duties and responsibilities of a guardian
•    Rights of the ward
•    Preparation of guardianship reports
•    Financial accounting for the ward's property

Florida Non-Professional Guardianship - Minors (LAEX 0241)

This Florida Statewide Public Guardianship Office approved course offers an overview of all the elements of the Florida non-professional guardianship process for minors and meets Florida statutory guardianship educational requirements.

The Curriculum addresses:
•    Legal duties and responsibilities of a guardian
•    Annual guardianship accounts for the ward's property
•    Maintenance and termination of guardianship
•    Required forms

•    Rights of the ward
