EFSC Testing Services

Many incoming college-credit or vocational students are required by state law to participate in academic assessment as part of the college admissions process.

Unless exempted, all associate degree seeking students will be assessed for college readiness and other programs may also require placement testing before enrollment into specific courses, including:

• College Credit Placement Testing (PERT, SAT, ACT, etc.)
• TEAS Health Program Testing
• TABE Vocational Testing

The EFSC Programs and Admissions Requirements list in the College Catalog indicates which assessment is required for each program of study. It is recommended that all first-time in college students be assessed for the need for developmental education. In addition to other exemption criteria, State Rules under Florida Statute 1008.30 provide added placement test exemption avenues for certain high school graduates, as well as active duty military personnel.

Additional Testing Services

In addition to placement testing, EFSC provides other testing services, including:

• National and institutional crediting exams for students, such as CLEP/DSST
• Industry certification exams
• Foreign language competency testing
• Secure proctored testing services for distance learning students from other institutions and professional employment credentialing.

Testing Centers are located on each of our four campuses. Not all of the tests offered by the College can be taken at every campus. Review the online list of EFSC testing centers for locations, services provided and contact information so you can call about hours of operation.

Authorization for Placement Test Exemption

Florida Statute 1008.30 – Common Placement Testing for Public Postsecondary Education(4)(a) A student who entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in the 2003-04 school year, or any year thereafter, and earned a Florida standard high school diploma* or a student who is serving as an active duty member of any branch of the United States Armed Forces shall not be required to take the common placement test and shall not be required to enroll in developmental education instruction in a Florida College System institution. However, a student who is not required to take the common placement test and is not required to enroll in developmental education under this paragraph may opt to be assessed and to enroll in developmental education instruction, and the college shall provide such assessment and instruction upon the student’s request.
*Student must have earned a standard high school diploma from a Florida public school.

Identification Requirements

Prior to any test administration, all candidates must present a valid, photo bearing, government or state-issued ID (original required; no photocopy). High School students without a government issued photo ID or photo bearing High School ID may be admitted with an executed, photo bearing Student Identification Letter, such as those prepared for SAT or ACT test identification purposes. Some tests, such as CLEP, will not permit use of a Student ID for admissions purposes. Others may require an additional second ID. Identification documents must meet the test publisher's guidelines.
